could only be done if one had “anti-gravity”.
In
response, the government for twenty
years gave out secret
research
contracts to study “anti-gravity" while trying to collect
information
from the public about UFOs in Project Blue Book.
The
“anti-gravity” contracts obtained no useful results, and
both
programs,
the “anti-gravity” research and Project Blue Book,
were
cancelled
simultaneously in 1975.
The
government never
announced that it was scientifically certain
that UFOs
possessed “anti-gravity”. Its position appeared to be
that
all UFO sightings could be explained away (as "swamp gas"
for example).
